Hand Holding of Government Schools:

Due to paucity of funds, government schools in our country does not have adequate academic resources, proper infrastructure and qualified teachers. This often leads to mediocre learning conditions for the students of these government schools. To provide a healthy learning environment with basic amenities, CHIREC International has extended a helping hand to the four government schools in its neighboring community, impacting the lives of about 1500 children. The regular contributions to these schools include:

• Provision of notebooks, stationery, school bags and other learning aid material for all the students

• Strengthening the infrastructure by providing furniture, lights & fans for classrooms and offices and play equipment for the students.

• Provision of books for supplementary reading and extending the facility of a library by establishing a Library on Wheels

• Organizing free summer camps every year to develop and enhance the skills of the students in arts, sports, and technology

• Encouraging digital learning by setting up a computer laboratory, for which we have provided computers and internet facilities.

• Celebration of festivals with the government school students and distributing snacks and sweets.

• Inclusion of the government school students in the CHIREC school programmes

• Students of the government schools can avail the benefit of resources such as sports equipment, infrastructure, laboratories, etc..

• Awarding scholarships to the toppers of Grade X of the government schools every year

The Foundation aims at expanding these activities by reaching out to more government schools, so that a larger number of students may benefit from them.

Scholarship for Higher Education:

Despite improved access to higher education, many deserving students from economically insecure families remain outside the range. To encourage such students to complete higher education, the Foundation has introduced the ‘Veni Rao Scholarship for Higher Education’ so that bright students from financially insecure families may benefit from it.

It has been observed that the nutritional content of the meal provided by the Government as a part of the mid-day meal programme is inadequate for growing children. On a regular basis, we supplement the nutritional needs of the students by sending food items cooked in the CHIREC kitchen, hygienically, to the Masjid Banda and Anjaiah Nagar schools. The food is also provided daily to the Sankalp Foundation, an orphanage in Hyderabad.

The Foundation aims at increasing these services to reach more people who are needy and deprived of basic nutrition.

Sanitation is extremely important, especially for children, to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Improper sanitation facilities lead to various health complications in children. CHIREC International has built separate toilets for boys and girls at the Masjid Banda Government School. It also enhanced the existing toilets at the Gopi Nagar Government School. CHIREC has employed full time toilet cleaners and provides the toilets cleaning materials so that the campus and toilets are maintained clean. The Veni Rao Foundation will continue to support the government schools by maintaining the sanitation so that the children studying in these schools are safeguarded against the diseases that result from improper sanitation.

Adolescents in the government schools are not provided with appropriate information related to their physical, emotional and sexual changes. The Veni Rao Foundation conducts awareness sessions about health and hygiene for the students of the government schools. These sessions take place as talks and workshops that provide them with education and information to tackle issues related to puberty. As a part of this programme, Female students are provided with their monthly sanitary napkins requirements.

The change in our value system, increased cost of living & constant inflation has led to the collapse of the joint family system. This has placed tremendous pressure on senior citizens, often forcing them to move into ‘Homes for the Aged’. Many old age homes support destitute senior citizens for free through charity & donations. However, these homes may not be able to regularly fulfill the basic needs of the senior citizens. Furthermore, these elderly citizens face feelings of abandonment & loneliness, leading to depression.

At the Veni Rao Foundation, our goal is to extend the necessary support to as many Old Age Homes as possible for the welfare of senior citizens. We donate walkers, wheel chairs, spectacles and other support aids to the elders, and conduct Medical, Eye and Dental camps for the well-being of these citizens. The Foundation also looks forward to facilitating community based social interaction and recreational activity sessions for the elderly citizens to alleviate feelings of rejection and isolation.
